A Little News

After talking with Aaron, we have decided to share our recent experiences. We knew that Aaron's treatments of chemotherapy and his last surgery would make it virtually impossible to have children on our own so we started to consider what options there were to have children. We went through the preliminary work and classes for infant adoption, but something kept pulling at us to see what other alternatives were out there. As much as we thought that adopting a child would be a wonderful thing and we would be helping a child in need, we also realized that the child that we would want would not go without a loving home. We knew we were in line for an infant, along with a million other people. Not saying adoption was put to a total stop, but we set it aside while we explored insemination by donor; in a sense, we were going to consider "adopting" sperm, instead of a baby. After a ton of research on our own and talking with our pastor, we made an appointment with OHSU to check out our options and see what steps we needed to do - at this point, it looked like this was the route we were going to go. I received the checklist and made all of the necessary appointments to get everything done as soon as possible. I got the blood work done, Aaron and I picked out a donor, and we made the appointment with a counselor who made us have a better understanding of what we were about to do and how to confront possible issues we may have in the future with our child. After finding out that I might need a little help myself, we started first line fertility drugs in December...

12/08/09 - Cycle Day One

12/10/09 - 12/14/0 - Clomid

12/22/09 - Ovidrel Injection at 10:00 pm
- I have to say that I am quite proud of myself for this one.  Giving myself a shot was one of the main reasons I didn't want to go through fertility treatments.  That little booger better know how much I love 'em!  Although, I have to admit - piece of cake!

12/24/09 - Christmas Eve!  IUI at 10:00 am
- The doctor said to wait two weeks before testing, but like that would happen... At that point all I could think was how awesome it would be if it worked the first time around, but I asked the doctor the likelihood and how often she's seen it work on the first time, and she said, "Occasionally, but not too often, so don't get your hopes up." Being a realist, I assumed that we would be going in for another try, but I kept also getting this feeling that it could end up being the best Christmas present ever.

01/04/10 - 11 dpo / Positive Home Pregnancy Test / HcG Beta Level 32 / Progesterone Level 23.7
- In total shock that it happened the first time, but we are both soooo excited!

01/06/10 - 13 dpo / HcG Beta Level 110
- The nurse said that the HcG levels would double after 48 hours if it seems to be a healthy pregnancy and they more than tripled! She said that was excellent and got excited for us and said she was still amazed that 1) I tested positive so early and 2) we got pregnant the first time around.  She said that the due date would be approximately September 17th, 2010!

Ultrasound Scheduled for January 25th to hear the baby's heartbeat!

It's still pretty early, but the word was getting out so I thought it was time to finally make an announcement - didn't want to leave anyone out!  Hopefully things will keep going great!
